I am reading I Hunt Killers and throughout the whole book is one big stereotype. That stereotype is that because the main character, Jasper Dent, is automatically supposed to be a serial killer since his father, Billy Dent, was one. Even though Jasper has proven his whole life that he is nothing like his dad people still have the fear of him lashing out at any moment. I, on the other hand, believe that you can be whatever you want no matter what your "fate" is.
The sorta relates to The Help because sterotypes are passed down generation after generation. White people passed on the racial prejudices that black carry diease. White people did not stop and think if it was true because that is what they have grown up believing.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of Mrs. Dubose from TKAM who told Jem and Scout that they would amount to nothing because their father was a black lover.
ReplyDeleteThis reminds me of the kids in Columbine. They all assumed that the killers were emo and goth, but they were actually popular and had many friends. From all the past shootings and past murders everyone just assumed the stereotype.
